After 24hrs of life, babies are checked for jaundice which is caused by an excess of bilirubin in the blood, a component of broken down red blood cells that causes the whites of the eyes and skin to become yellow. Because Mayson's bilirubin levels were so high they put him under florescent lights that helps the body get rid of the bilirubin.
Mayson had to be under these light for about 12hrs, and believe you me, not being able to have your new baby with you throughout the day drives one crazy.
